I’m comfortable with making this assumption, especially because this will understate the value of drafting – however, it will understate it less the more constructed you play. This is primarily because it will be hard to model these effectively – some quests will be easy to do in a draft format (play lands, attack with creatures), and some may be difficult (play 30 red or black spells). That said, if you are actually looking for a particular uncommon or common, you can pretty easily snag them in drafts no matter what, so if this is a consideration, drafting is almost certainly the way to go.įourth, I’m going to assume that your drafting will never cash out any quests. You get more uncommons and commons in draft packs, but you get wildcards in gold packs. Third, I’m assuming that uncommons and commons are essentially a wash. This assumption will overstate the value of drafting, and it will do so more the more constructed you play – that being said, this effect is less than the previous assumption. Implicit in this assumption again is that you will not play constructed before you draft. After your 4th daily win, the amount of gold you receive for wins falls precipitiously (petering out completely after your 14th win of the day). Second, I’m going to also assume that you will only draft once/twice a day for the purposes of your daily gold accrual for wins. This assumption will overstate the value of drafting, and it will do so more the more constructed you play.

If you play constructed events at all, this obviously will eat into the benefits of drafting (after 3 packs per week, you are no longer eligible for this benefit). I’ll defend each one, but it is up to you to decide whether they are reasonable or not.įirst, I’m going to assume that you are playing drafts exclusively with respect to getting the “5 wins for 1 pack” weekly reward. For that one pack you get:ġ mythic rare or rare card (chance at a wild card)įor the rest of the article, I’m going to refer to this classic pack configuration as a “gold pack.” The reason I’m doing this is because this post is going to look at the value of these packs (purchasable with gold) against the idea of entering drafts with that gold (it costs 5,000 gold to draft one time), and trying to build your collection through card selection there.īefore we start, I am going to make a bunch of assumptions.
